Overview

Discovery Grants offered by the Mat-Su Health Foundation (MSHF) fund projects over $25,000 that address recommendations from MSHF-sponsored research reports. The program aims to foster innovative solutions targeting key areas identified in these reports, focusing on MSHF's priority areas. Applications are accepted year-round online. Focus Areas

MSHF's focus areas include healthy aging, healthy minds, healthy futures, and healthy families within the Mat-Su Borough. Projects should aim to solve problems, redesign systems, or fill gaps using evidence-based practices, promising practices, or innovative solutions.

Eligibility

Prospective grantees must be qualified Alaska nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations, classified as not a private foundation under section 509(a) of the Code. In some cases, 501(c)(4) organizations may be considered. Partnerships involving religious, governmental, educational, community councils, or tribal agencies are also eligible.

Ineligibility

Individuals (except for scholarships), for-profit organizations, private foundations, competitive sporting clubs, and organizations primarily focused on redistributing funds or influencing legislation are ineligible. Projects directly supporting operations of Mat-Su Regional Medical Center are also not funded.

Preferences

MSHF encourages proposals that integrate new technology, engage nontraditional sectors, and foster collaboration in innovative ways. Pilot projects testing solutions on a small scale are welcome. Grantees may participate in cohort learning experiences or technical assistance.
