Overview

The Caregiver Support Grant program, funded by the Older Americans Act through the National Family Caregiver Support Program, Title IIIE Funds, is administered by Alzheimer’s Arkansas Programs and Services. This initiative aims to provide financial assistance to caregivers in Pulaski, Saline, Monroe, Prairie, Lonoke, and Faulkner counties in Arkansas. The grants are designed to support caregivers of elderly individuals with chronic illnesses, including those diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia.

Focus Area

The program focuses on supporting caregivers who provide essential daily assistance to elderly residents living independently or with family members in the specified counties. It aims to alleviate caregiving responsibilities temporarily to allow caregivers a period of rest.

Eligibility

To qualify for the Caregiver Support Grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• The care recipient (patient) must be 60 years of age or older, or below 60 with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or any form of dementia.

• The patient must reside in Pulaski, Saline, Monroe, Prairie, Lonoke, or Faulkner county in Arkansas.

• The patient must have a documented diagnosis of a chronic illness that necessitates daily caregiver assistance.

• Applicants must demonstrate that the patient does not receive similar services funded by other sources, including private insurance, Medicaid, Medicare, ARChoices, Independent Choices, Supplemental Security Income, or Hospice.

Ineligibility:

The following are ineligible for the Caregiver Support Grant:

• Care recipients residing outside Pulaski, Saline, Monroe, Prairie, Lonoke, or Faulkner counties in Arkansas.

• Care recipients living in full-time care facilities.

• Individuals already receiving similar services covered by other funding sources as specified.

Preference

Preference may be given to applications that:

• Demonstrate a clear and immediate need for caregiver respite.

• Provide thorough and accurate documentation, including the required doctor’s certification.

• Ensure that grant funds are used effectively to support caregiver relief in compliance with program guidelines.
