The Cailloux Foundation awards grants to tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations for specific projects or programs, technical assistance, and capital projects. General operations grants are typically not considered unless approved as challenge grants. The foundation does not make grants for scholarship awards or provide grants or loans to individuals.

Geographic Focus

Grant proposals are accepted only from Kerr and the surrounding communities, including Gillespie, Bandera, Edwards, Real, and Kimble Counties. Grants awarded outside these counties are Foundation-initiated.

Preferred Conditions for Grant Consideration

• The project is likely to continue and expand post-grant period.

• The project is innovative and efficient in its use of funds.

• The project has the ability to be self-supporting.

• The request is for matching or challenge funding.

• The project is well planned.

Exclusions

• Grants are not made to supporting organizations.

• The Foundation does not fund church or seminary construction, or church-related entities unless they meet Foundation criteria and serve as separate entities from the church.

Application Process

Step 1: Submit a Letter of Inquiry

• Letters of inquiry are accepted anytime throughout the year.

• A letter of inquiry must precede a formal grant proposal.

• If your inquiry is approved, you will be invited to complete an online grant application for the second stage of the process.

Step 2: Complete Online Grant Application

• After the letter of inquiry is approved, complete the online grant application by the stated deadline.

• The Foundation will acknowledge grant proposals within 30 days.

• Notification of Board action regarding a grant will occur within two weeks after the proposal is considered.
