Overview

Access to the outdoors should be low-cost and ubiquitous for all New Mexicans. The Outdoor Recreation Trails+ grant program supports projects enhancing community outdoor recreation opportunities, including trails, river parks, wildlife viewing areas, and more. These projects contribute to economic development, quality of life, and tourism by improving access to outdoor spaces.

Application Cycle

 Open on a rolling basis from July 1, 2023.

 Closing: December or when funds are expended.

Matching Funds

 1:1 match for urban applicants.

 2:1 match for rural and Tribal community applicants (in-kind or cash accepted).

Eligible Applicants

 Tier 1 (Local Projects): Tribes, Pueblos, Nations, Municipalities, Counties, Nonprofits, Public preschools/schools/districts, Colleges/Universities, Soil and water conservation districts, Acequia and land grant associations.

 Tier 2 (Regional Projects): Same as Tier 1, excluding Nonprofits.

Project Criteria

 Tier 1: Must benefit the local community, be open for public use.

 Tier 2: Must benefit the whole region, demonstrate public value.

Eligibility

Tiger Foundation funds organizations that:

• Are tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the IRS Code.

• Focus on addressing root causes of poverty in New York City.

• Demonstrate strong measurable outcomes, skilled leadership, cost-effectiveness, and financial health.

Ineligibility

Requests for support are not considered for:

• Individuals

• Annual or capital campaigns

• Endowments

• Benefits

• Public policy or lobbying efforts

• Legal assistance

• Existing obligations or debt liability

Application Process

• There are no deadlines for submitting Letters of Inquiry (LOIs); they are reviewed year-round on a rolling basis.

• Upon receipt of an LOI, initial review takes approximately four to six weeks.

• Qualified applicants will be contacted by program staff for further consideration.
